Maximum Overdrive
I didn’t have great memories about this movie — in fact, I remember thinking it was pretty lousy. Watching it again now, it’s just as ridiculous as I remembered it being, but there was a bit of fun to be had re-watching all of this ridiculousness. Yeardley Smith is pretty entertaining. And the AC/DC soundtrack…

Firewalker
This is not a good movie. To be fair, I sorta remembered it wasn’t a good movie, but I was still in the mood to take it in, and there was some nostalgic fun in seeing just how “Cannon” it feels. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, and although Louis Gossett Jr. does a decent…

Psycho III
Oh, don’t worry, I’m not done yet with my 1986 movie marathon yet. The 20th film on the agenda was Psycho III, a film I barely remembered anything about — I wasn’t even sure I’d ever seen it, until I saw the suicide in the bath sequence, which I recognized for some reason. I don’t remember…

Something Wild
This is still such a fun movie. Kicking off with a theme song by Talking Heads, and then just a great soundtrack overall (and then The Feelies performing some great covers during the high-school reunion scene). Melanie Griffith was never better, and it’s fun seeing young Jeff Daniels like this. Definitely worth revisiting.

The Money Pit
There’s a lot of fun to be had with screwball comedies of the 80s like this one. I think it’s aged fairly well, and I had a pretty good time watching it again. It’s also fun to see young Tom Hanks in action, and to revisit good ol’ Shelley Long and Alexander Godunov. I miss those…

Stand by Me
Stand by Me is just as good now as it ever was. It’s aged incredibly well, and watching it again last night, I was so there again, following these boys on their little adventure, with that classic soundtrack perfectly accompanying the proceedings. Also, maybe it’s just because I watched it so many times back in…

Pretty in Pink
Oh the joys of re-watching classic John Hughes movies (he didn’t direct this one, but still wrote and produced it). It’s got the classic soundtrack, the great characters, and everything else I remember liking about it. Watching this also got me thinking how it’s a shame that there is no creator these days making cool…

Police Academy 3: Back in Training
The best thing about this movie is any scene Bobcat Goldthwait is in. The worst thing is the Japanese character, who is uncomfortably “oriental” in a Long Duk Dong kinda way. Overall, it’s silly fun, although I think I liked the second one more.

Big Trouble in Little China
I know I really liked this movie back in the day — I was a pretty big fan of John Carpenter films in general — but it had been so long since I’d watched it that I barely remembered the story at all, which made it that much more fun to watch. Yes, it’s incredibly silly,…
