Today is Children’s Day, which is celebrated by putting up carp streamers, or koinobori.

One of the things that I like about hiking in Japanese forests is that you see stuff like this. Gives a sense of history to the place.

It was really nice to get out of the city last Saturday and head out to the countryside for a bit of wandering/hiking. We went to Koma, about an hour by train from Ikebukuro on the Seibu Ikebukuro line, and a place we visited almost exactly a year ago.

Not far from the Todai Hongo campus, this is very old student lodging. Probably dirt cheap. Actually looked like a traditional ryokan.

But it’s not just the old that you see, as there are a few newer buildings that help give the campus a modern feel.
