FILMeX 2004

Tokyo is of course all about design in October, and then film in November, what with the Resfest and FILMeX festivals both happening.

Launched with the aim to introduce a new wave of filmmakers and cinematic trends, Tokyo Filmex is held for the fifth time this year. The program is once again convincing enough to cast aside any doubts over whether Tokyo with its vast selection of movies being shown everyday really needs another film festival. A special program introduces the works of Canadian Guy Maddin, Body Gabor from Hungary, and Uchida Tomu. His silent movie “Keisatsukan (Police Officer)” should be one of the highlights, as it is shown with Otomo Yoshihide’s soundtrack performed live by Omoto’s own New Jazz Ensemble. The symposium on international film festivals featuring directors Kitano Takeshi, Koreeda Hirokazu and others is of course an attraction not only for film freaks. English interpretation is available, so poor Japanese language skills are no excuse for not showing up! (REALTOKYO)
