The new issue of CASA BRUTUS (60) carries a feature on modern India (strong emphasis on design, of course), and it makes for quite a refreshing look at a country that generally seems to be regarded solely in terms of economic and/or political status. I could definitely take in a trip to Mumbai (aka Bombay). The magazine does go old-school — in a negative way — with their tired Sir Terence Conran guide. Surely the editors could have taken someone more, huh, current along for their design travelogue.
Another interesting piece in this issue covers various theoretical designs for portable ashtrays by a who’s who of famous illustrators/designers. The true standouts for me are the space-age-y aluminum pack by Groovisions and Shu-Thang Grafix‘s cigarette in a cup (oh-so-very Captain Porno).
