Beckham Madness

It’s absolute Beckham madness in Tokyo right now. He and the wife are in town for a few days of promotions (getting paid millions by companies like Meiji Chocolate), and people are going nuts. At least 500 fans greeted him at Narita Airport yesterday, and on the wide shows right now most everything is about Beckham, how he holds his wife’s hand (Japanese couples don’t do that, or at least older ones), his new samurai-like hairstyle, etc. Right now on TV is live coverage of him visiting an elementary school. The way the students greeted him in chant made it feel like some kind of North Korean mass game! Yuko was joking with me about the whole thing, until Beckham showed up at the school and she got all excited and let out a scream. I had to start making fun of her.
