New Magazines
June 25th, 2007

I picked up the following magazines for the cafe.
- CASA BRUTUS (88)
- BRUTUS (619)
- Re:S (4)
- MAC POWER (211)
- TOKION (61)
- STUDIO VOICE (379)

I picked up the following magazines for the cafe.

We recently celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the cafe, and produced this t-shirt (not for sale). It was designed by Next Century Modern. Below is the color we used for the final tee.

The cafe, as well as yours truly, makes an appearance in the current issue of PEN (197), as part of their “Tokyo Map 2007″ issue.

I haven’t updated the site in a while, but have still been stocking the place with new magazines on a regular basis. Here’s a rundown of what I picked up earlier this week.
I just learned from the staff at the cafe that they will be closing earlier on Monday (January 8) because of the holiday — they hadn’t realized that it was a holiday when I told them last month when the next edition would take place. Because of this, I’m going to cancel PauseTalk this month. The next one will be February 5. Apologies for any inconvenience this late announcement may cause.

If you have a look at the latest issue of RYUKO TSUSHIN (522), you’ll find this little news piece (on page 208) covering “Nudie Cafe,” with a nice little photo of Jesper and me. It’s always nice to get covered in the Japanese press!

Today marks the start of Huschang and Sonia’s Ooito and Th’ Rezidents exhibition at the cafe (until December 24), and so I’ve put up a Flickr photoset of a few shots I took tonight. As the exhibition will be held in two phases — read about it here — I’ll add more photos to the set over the course of the show. Both of them will be on hand Friday night (December 15) for an informal reception.

I’m very happy to announce that starting next week, Cafe Pause will be hosting an exhibition by designers Huschang Pourian and Sonia Chow (December 11-24). The show will be divided in two phases, with the first week (December 11-17) covering Huschang’s streetwear line Ooito (it launches with a Spring 2007 collection, so this will act as a preview) and the Rezidents characters that Sonia created, with the second week (December 18-24) focusing on their personal work. Both will be at the cafe next Friday night (December 15), 19:00-22:00, so drop by and meet the designers!

The “Nudie Cafe” event is long over, but here’s a Flickr photoset taken by Jens Petersen (for those who came to the party, he was also the first DJ).

Last night saw another great turnout for PauseTalk, with me managing to get through it despite my cold (I didn’t have much of a voice by the end though). We discussed the wiki project — the wiki is online, but I haven’t made it public yet, but this should happen soon enough — and also proposed a new project that will see participants making shorts with 8mm cameras, to be shown in a future event (if you are interested in participating, details will appear soon on the wiki). Please note that the next PauseTalk (Vol. 7) will take place January 8. A list of all participants at last night’s edition is now up on the PauseTalk website.

I’ve put up a Flickr photoset of shots from “Connections and Combinations,” the exhibition by artist/writer Andrew Conti at the cafe that starts today. The show runs until December 3, with an artist reception being held November 25, from 19:00.
You’ll notice some of the puzzles in the shots that I mentioned a while back, and the artist invites everyone to play around with them, and to then snap a pic and send it to him.

With the "Nudie Cafe" event now over, since we still have some t-shirts left over (Swedish graphic designer PMKFA remixing a Nudie Jeans tee), we’ve decided to sell the remaining stock online. We sill have quite a few mediums and larges, but only 2 smalls left (I’ll update the post as sizes become unavailable). Be warned that they run rather small (I usually wear M, but for this tee L fits me nicely). We’re selling them for 4500 yen, which includes shipping for anywhere in the world. To order, paypal me the amount (send the money to jean@jeansnow.net), and include your mailing address and size choice. Huge thanks to Jens Petersen for the great photo.
All good things must come to an end, and so it did for the "Nudie Cafe" event at the cafe. Even though it was a hectic few weeks, I can honestly say that I’m already looking forward to whatever we’ll end up doing next year.

The next exhibition at the cafe will be by artist/writer Andrew Conti. “Connections and Combinations,” to include a collection of paintings and drawings, will be held November 20 to December 3, with an artist’s reception happening on Saturday, November 25, from 19:00.
