PauseTalk Vol. 15

Big thanks to everyone who came to the special edition of PauseTalk (Vol. 15) we had this past Monday, to celebration the “Creative GBG in Tokyo” event at the cafe. It was far removed from how things usually go, with a few presentations (special thanks to Jesper, Julia, Martin, and Marxy for participating) and not much conversation, but mixed in with a good amount of socializing and drinking, which I was happy to see and partake in. The next edition — a regular one — will be held December 3.

Creative GBG in Tokyo

With all my running around to catch Tokyo Design Week events and then the 3 nights of Radio OK Fred sessions, I haven’t had much of a chance to talk about our “Creative GBG in Tokyo” event for Swedish Style 2007 at the cafe. As you’ll know if you’ve visited the official site, the idea was to promote a collection of 10 creators from the city of Gothenburg, Sweden, with installations at the cafe, as well as the production of a catalog (you can download a PDF version here). You still have a chance to catch the installations since the event runs until November 8, and here’s a Flickr photoset to give you a peak at what it looks like.

When’s the best time to come? That would be this Monday (November 5), which is when we’ll have our party, which includes a special edition of PauseTalk. How will it differ from regular editions? It will be shorter, kicking off at 20:00, and starting with me and Jesper talking about the event, then followed by a couple of Swedish creators talking about some of their works, and then topped with a repeat performance of W. David Marx’s Powerpoint presentation of “The Idealogy of Micro-Idealogy” that was shown this past Friday at our Radio OK Fred session (not to be missed). Doors will open at 19:00, and you’ll be able to pick up a free copy of the Creative GBG catalog. Come one come all!

The Analog Girl at Cafe Pause

Here are a few shots (the rest after the jump) of the performance by Singapore’s The Analog Girl at the cafe, this past Friday (August 17). I also recorded video of a few tracks, but unfortunately the completed file ended up being too big (1.7GB), and caused problems when I tried to transfer it. Thanks to everyone who showed up — I expect we’ll be doing more of these low-key performances at the cafe in the near future.

Singapore’s The Analog Girl stopped by the cafe earlier today to do a soundcheck for tonight’s live performance — more details about the show here, which starts at 21:00.

The Analog Girl

I’m very happy to announce that this coming Friday (August 17) we will be hosting a live performance by Singapore’s The Analog Girl at the cafe. This is not her first appearance in Japan, she performed at the Soso Cafe in Sapporo a few years ago, but it will be her first show in Tokyo. So if you haven’t gone out of town during the summer break, come down for a chilled-out cafe live — entry will be free (regular cafe operations, so drink purchase required), with her 30-minute set starting at 21:00. Here’s some more info:

When Nike Europe sought for a new kind of sound to accompany their retail campaign, they chose The Analog Girl’s heady mix of dreamy, edgy and futuristic electro-rock. She’s taken her music to such legendary venues as The Knitting Factory in New York City, The Spitz in London, Cirque Electrique in Paris, Soso Art Cafe in Japan and The Esplanade in Singapore. She has also played at SHOWstudio’s REVUE, a special event produced by Nick Knight’s creative studio held in conjunction with Sony’s Playstation 3 launch in the U.K. And now following the success of her debut album The TV Is On, 2007 sees the release of her brand new EP “Sometime Next Galaxy” under New York based label Roji Music. Dubbed by critics the world over as a young Yoko Ono and Bjork, The Analog Girl is fast becoming one of tomorrow’s brightest stars to rock a different sound, and she is extremely excited to be performing her new material at Cafe Pause in Tokyo this summer!

Nudie Cafe Article

If you have a look at the latest issue of RYUKO TSUSHIN (522), you’ll find this little news piece (on page 208) covering “Nudie Cafe,” with a nice little photo of Jesper and me. It’s always nice to get covered in the Japanese press!

The “Nudie Cafe” event is long over, but here’s a Flickr photoset taken by Jens Petersen (for those who came to the party, he was also the first DJ).

Nudie Cafe T-Shirts for Sale

Nudie Cafe T-Shirt

With the "Nudie Cafe" event now over, since we still have some t-shirts left over (Swedish graphic designer PMKFA remixing a Nudie Jeans tee), we’ve decided to sell the remaining stock online. We sill have quite a few mediums and larges, but only 2 smalls left (I’ll update the post as sizes become unavailable). Be warned that they run rather small (I usually wear M, but for this tee L fits me nicely). We’re selling them for 4500 yen, which includes shipping for anywhere in the world. To order, paypal me the amount (send the money to jean@jeansnow.net), and include your mailing address and size choice. Huge thanks to Jens Petersen for the great photo.

The End of Nudie Cafe

All good things must come to an end, and so it did for the "Nudie Cafe" event at the cafe. Even though it was a hectic few weeks, I can honestly say that I’m already looking forward to whatever we’ll end up doing next year.

The Nudie Party That Was

Nudie Party

I’ve put up a Flickr photoset of shots from last night’s "Nudie Party" at the cafe, which marked the end of our "Nudie Cafe" event. The place was packed — it was so hard to move inside that people were spilling out on the street, even attracting attention from the police — and for the first time ever people were dancing and rockin’ the place! Huge thanks to everyone who came, and to the great beats provided by Jens, PMKFA + Megumi, NIM, and Embee!

Nudie Party

Tomorrow marks the end of our “Nudie Cafe” event at the cafe, and we’re celebrating with a party tonight (Saturday, November 11, 18:00-23:00) with the “Nudie Party!” If you have no plans for the evening, do stop by, as we have DJs (headliner is Embee, but our friends Jens, and event collaborator PMKFA, will also spend some time at the DJ booth), with NIM preparing some special video projections (he produced the cool video installation you’ve been able to see throughout the event). Happy hour drinks all night (translation: all drinks 500 yen) — should be a blast!

Nudie Cafe Video Installation

I’ve added a few more shots to the “Nudie CafeFlickr photoset, mostly showcasing the video projection by NIM. The video is programmed to create “visual beats” that play along with the tracks from all our compilations. There is also an MTV-style info bumper that appears at the bottom left whenever a new track starts. NIM will be doing some live VJing at the Nudie Party, on November 11 (18:00-23:00).

Nudie Cafe Compilations

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

For those interested, I’ve posted the complete playlists — after the jump — for the compilations that we are playing at the cafe during the “Nudie Cafe” event. Contributors are Hideki Kaji, Embee, Hird, Hej Musik, and Marc Xavier LeBlanc (Bones), and all music is 100% Swedish.

I had time to put a few images from the “Nudie Cafe” event up on my Flickr account — here’s a link to the photoset. I’ll add some more shots over the week.
