Kill la Kill

I’ve been hearing this series get mentioned by a few friends who enjoy anime, and so was curious to check it out, even though on the surface it didn’t look like the kind of thing that I’d really be into – the “suit” the heroin wears when using her powers is absolutely cringe-worthy. But since I spotted it on Netflix, I gave the first episode a shot, and there’s definitely a lot to like here. I especially like the general art direction, and the use of strong typography throughout – this is definitely an anime series passed through a graphic design filter. I can’t comment much on the story yet – students in a battle school of some sort – but I’ll give it a few more episodes, as it looks like it may be fun. But again, groans galore at the ridiculously skimpy (and no sexy) outfit you often see her in.
