It’s with a lot of sadness that I post this, on the final day of 2008. As has just been posted on PingMag, our dear web magazine is done, or as officially stated, placed on “extended hiatus” — the site’s archives will remain online. Yes, the closure comes as a result of this “global economic crisis” that seems to really be screwing up a lot of good things these days. And yes, this means I lose my post as editor, and as of now I’m back on the hunt for work.
Yeah, it’s a pretty shitty way to end the year, especially since I really enjoyed working there — for those four short weeks — and I certainly feel like it’s unfair that things had to happen like this.
But I’ve had time to get over it, and I’m truly looking forward to an exciting 2009. Happy New Year, everyone!

Sorry to hear that, both because you lost your job and because Pingmag was quite a nice place.
Good luck in 2009!
good luck for 2009 Jean!! It’ll be great I am sure!
i’m truly sorry to hear that! :( your interview with magibon was great. wishing best of luck for the new year!
Very sad to lose Pingmag. It’s been a daily habit for two years. You’re a great writer so I’m positive something better is around the corner.
That’s sad news for fans of this blog and for fans of Ping. I was looking forward to your reports from Harajuku. But, let’s hope that this less-than-great ending to 2008 leads to better-than-great things in 2009. Happy New Year!
Wow… dang. I’m sorry to hear that Jean. I’m super bummed. Well, I’m sure I’m speaking for all of us when I say I have complete confidence that another great position will soon come along and the lucky company will be blessed by your presence and skills.
A beer in the park makes things better! :)
Sorry to hear this Jean, I had just discovered the magazine through you. I wish you better fortune in the year ahead.
Such a shame!
: (
So sad indeed :( But I wish you the best of everything in the brand spanking new 2009!
Let’s hope White Rabbit Press can pull something off in saving Ping Mag. Go Max go!
This stinks. Well the turnaround is supposed to start latter half of next year. Hoping Obama will make things happen. So I’m sure the shutdown should be shortlived. Pingmag was a cool idea.
Mr.Snow,
There have been many times in my life where I had to leave a city, a job, people, and a university campus for the last time. I always stand there staring and thinking of all the things I accomplished there. Sometimes you just have to let go, because newer and better things await you in the future.. and it always does.
