Fundoshi Model

Yukie Kaneko is a graphic designer who has been specializing in modern takes on Japanese family crests. For her next project, she’s designed a collection of fundoshi, a traditional type of Japanese “underwear,” similar to a loin cloth, often worn during festivals.

She’s currently looking for non-Japanese men to model her fundoshi collection, and so needs your help. The photo shoots will be done in Tokyo, indoors and outdoors, by fashion photographer Rie Sahara — she took the shot above. No compensation, but it should be a fun few hours, and you’ll get some prints.

You can contact Yukie directly by mail. She also has an online shop selling some of her designs.

  2. You’ve only been away a couple of days and you’re already missing it? Hahaha…

Hope things are cool in NYC. About that status comment you wrote about everyone having a laptop, yeah, I noticed that too when I was there in July.

Imagine a Tokyo with free wi-fi access everywhere…

  5. Hi everybody, I am “the guy”.

I can assure you that it is veeery comfortable, that I sometimes actually wear “fundoshi” during japanese festivals, and that the shooting session was fun.

The problem on the roof was the light : I was facing the sun (for obvious photographic reasons) but I have blue eyes and was not allowed my sunglasses (blue eyes are weaker than brown ones) while staring at the sun.

    Sorry about the frown…
