Looks like Kadokawa — the company behind the terrific THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA series — will be allowing some of its content to be posted on YouTube for free viewing, starting next month. Here’s a link to Kodakawa’s YouTube channel. Via Japan Probe.

  1. Not the first lot to do it. Gonzo started putting a number of its new series on Youtube a few months ago, subtitled in-house and near simultaneous. That other firms are looking at following suit is interesting, but since the business model for a number of these organisations relies on loss-leading on TV in order to sell DVDs and other merchandise, it follows that the availability of free airspace on the internet is attractive.

    Interesting times.

  2. I knew some other companies were doing something similar with other sites, but don’t remember the Gonzo thing. Yeah, definitely a good thing, me thinks.
