What could have been. The above video is a test created by Hayao Miyazaki for an animated adaption of the classic strip ADVENTURES IN SLUMBERLAND STARRING LITTLE NEMO. Via AICN.

Seems that the video was produced by Studio Ghibli, but not directed by Miyazaki.

That is wonderful stuff! The movie that was actually made by TMS was quite good, at least in terms of animation quality (the story didn’t have much to say.) This test has so much more imagination, tho! Wow… it could have been great!

It would probably be more correct to title this as “Little Nemo by Studio Ghibli”, since it isn’t actually directed by Miyazaki himself.
Clarification is in the two longest comments in the blog post the AICN article links to.

I only dug deeper because the faces in this pilot are unlike any Miyazaki work I’ve ever seen…
