Number of Comments Bug

I need help! After the controversial decision (according to a lot of you readers) a while back that led to me removing a direct link to comments, and especially the indication of the number of comments on a post, I’ve wanted to re-include that function, but for some reason, any WordPress tag that should indicate the number of replies keeps showing as if there were none, even if there are some. Any clue what’s wrong?

Update: Looks I was able to fix the problem (old posts don’t show it, but new ones should, as comments get added). I did some more searching, and found this page, which led to me updating the version of Spam Karma 2 I was using. That seems to have been the issue.
