The first Muji Award results have been announced, with the grand prize going to Yoh Komiyama’s “A Cast-off Skin” (pictured above). All silver and bronze winners get listed on the award site, and you’ll be able to see everything on display at the Yurakucho store’s Atelier Muji exhibition space starting today, until January 9.

Interesting that there seems to be a bit of a preference to ways of dealing with power cables. I’m not sure I’m completely getting the idea behind the winning cast-off skin, but ‘their destination, my departure’ is something I was immediately in to, it’s such a obviously simple and elegant solution to the ugliness of power boards. (**looks down next to the desk at the horrid thing down the side…**).
I agree, I liked that piece you mentioned, but am not too crazy about the winner — maybe it’s something I should be doing, but I don’t unplug everything between uses and if I do unplug something, it’s to plug something else instead.
I’m one of the participants from Singapore but my work was not chosen. Nevermind, will work harder next time round :). I liked the notebook design with corner frames. Its a very simple concept yet its functional. Just wonder why “Notebook to remember” with just a Muji label could bag the silver award? With 52 countries participating in this competition, its disappointing to find most winners are Japanese where there is only one Taiwanese winner. Are Japanese really that bias or they just could not find good designs from other countries?
I have to say that I was also quite disapointed with the selections (yeah, that silver award doesn’t make any sense to me either).
I entered from london. i also noticed how most of the winners were from Japan. i dont see how the designs are based on the concept?
Yeah, I’m a bit nonplussed about the whole thing.
would you be able to send me the contact details of Yoh Komiyam?
Thanks
Sorry, but I don’t have that information.
