a little bit of the mystery can be cleared up by Googling the architect's name. He has a firm called CDI Aoyama Studio, and has done at least one other building for Veloqx, the developer here.

the program description sounds unsurprising: "retail outlets, restaurants, and fitness centre."

It's on Meiji Dori, not far from the Omotesando crossing if you're heading towards Shibuya, on the Gap side of the street (meaning left side if you're walking towards Shibuya).

i watched the construction of this from my office window - really attractive at sunset.. wonder who is moving in, and why they havent done so yet?

also looks like a massive gear system is employed on the second floor (very visible from the sidewalk), but with no context, hard to see what it will do.

the immediate neighborhood (noisy, dirty meiji street) is cheap 'n cheezy - hopefully that will change as development efforts such as this are completed..

Wow, amazing. This is what I love about Tokyo. Right between two drab office buildings BAM amazing architecture. Will definitely have to check this out next time I'm in town.
