I’ve been sitting on this idea for about a month now, and I figure it’s about time I put it out there, and get some feedback. Partially inspired by Pecha Kucha, I’d like to create some sort of monthly meetup at Cafe Pause for creators/designers/writers to get together and talk about current projects, current trends, etc. Unlike Pecha Kucha, the idea here is for an intimate setting, where a small group of people can get together and have a conversation. Of course, eventually it could include using the cafe’s projector to do more, but for me, the interest is really in getting a small group of people of together to see what sort of interesting talk can come out of it. So PauseTalk (thank you Craig for the name idea) would probably be just right for something like 4-8 people. Now, I’m wondering if it would be best to create some sort of agenda, or just leave everything freeform, and let things go wherever. I’m still in the early planning stages, but I think it would be nice to start this within a month (May or June), and I’d love to hear from anyone who would be interested in participating.

This sounds wonderful. I’ll be in Tokyo from late October through November, so please let me know if it’s still happening then.
Sounds great to me. I’ve wanted to do this kind of thing for ages. Let me know how it works out.
I’ll definitely be writing about how things are going here, as well as updating on all dates and times for the actual meetups. I imagine that if it’s a go, I’ll probably have a permanent thing about it in the site’s sidebar, and then maybe even make a mini-site for it.
I’m sure there would be lots of willing helpers (me included) if you needed any help. Look forward to it!
I’d be happy to participate, I’m yours for the price of a flight to Tokyo and a glass of iced cappuccino.
Don’t think I could afford the price of a flight, but I hope you’ll want to join us next time you’re in town.
Funny you should mention an iced cappuccino, as that’s exactly what I had today this afternoon. Grabbed one from a small family-run coffeeshop near Co-Lab in Kudanshita (where I was based for the day) and then sipped it as I walked around Yasukuni shrine, enjoying the greenery and beautiful weather.
would love to come, end of may is also when i get back to tokyo. bit worried the number of people participating might be way over 4[0] - 8[0] by then and pause isn’t quite huge - // geez the image of more than 80 fired-up gaijin packing up and oozing out of the rather subdued and chilled cafe came to mind. sorry
anyway it sounds great
I definitely want to keep it down to a small group, because the main idea is to have a discussion.
yes, that sounds cool.
i think i might actually have been recalling an experience of some over 30 people crammed in my 20sqm (tokyo) apartment - supposed to discuss stuff and be creative. I’ll keep in touch here, (if i feel i might the one too many will keep strolling to tokyu hands or something)
Sounds like a great idea. I don’t know if people would be into this, but it would be cool to record the discussion and podcast it so your readers in other places could listen in on the discussion. Just a thought.
Yeah, I actually thought about that. I mean, not the whole thing, but maybe portions, or have a one segment where it’s officially for the podcast and we gear the discussion towards that.
