This Week in Magazines
The latest issue of PEN (163) takes a look at life design, meaning it covers items that are part of our everyday life from a design perspective. It’s a nice way to spotlight things that we don’t usually consider much. BRUTUS (581) offers up a “Books to Travel With” feature, with most of it dealing…

DCROSS No More
Last week I moblogged my visit to the DCROSS cafe in Marunouchi (near Maru Biru), and I got word a few days later that the cafe is actually closing down at the end of the month. The thing is, it’s the Mitsubishi Electric company (sponsor of the cafe) who is moving their offices to the…

I should have posted this earlier, but you still have one week to apply for inclusion in the annual DESIGN GRAPHICS portfolio issue (deadline: October 31). The deadline for the DG Portfolio 2006, produced by the publishers of Oz Graphix and DG magazine, is now looming, with entries closing on the 31st of October, 2005.…

My Dream Come True
I can’t even find the words to describe it, but I am beyond happy — I’m going to see The Pixies perform live in early December (on the 5th at Zepp Tokyo), and this, my friends, is a big deal for me. See, The Pixies are, well, my all-time favorite band (I know that sounds…

Container Exhibition 2004 Movie
The official Tokyo Designer’s Week website is hosting a terrific video documentary (with no sound) of last year’s edition of their very popular “Container Exhibition.” This year’s show will be held at TDW’s main venue of Jingu Gaien (near Gaienmae Station, in Aoyama).

Mystery Omotesando Building
A reader sends me word that Esquisse Omotesando is going to be torn down, and replaced in 2007 by the building pictured above. Anyone know who (architect) is behind the project? This press release (in Japanese) only mentions that it’s a Dutch architectural firm. Update: According to this article, the firm involved is MVRDV.

Production I.G Exhibition
I don’t mention exhibitions much anymore now that I have the TAB badge in my sidebar (you can also subscribe to a feed of my recommended events), but I do want to make an exception for this new show at the Parco Museum of Art and Beyond covering the work of Production I.G. “Production I.G”…

iPod Nano in Shibuya
The Japanese Apple site has put up a gallery of pics that show iPod nano promotions taking place in Shibuya. I stopped at the Apple Store Shibuya earlier tonight (my first visit — it’s smaller than I thought), and got to play around with one of the new video-ready iPods. Sweet!
