Anything that can help update Tokyo’s crummy theaters is a good thing. Now if only they could do something about ticket prices…
A group of five Japanese and U.S. companies said Tuesday they will begin 10-month experiments next week to run the latest Hollywood movies transferred to Japan as digital data via optical fiber.
The digital movie experiment, called “4K Pure Cinema,” will be carried out from Oct 22 till the end of August next year by Warner Bros Entertainment Inc and Toho Co as well as Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, NTT West Corp and Warner Entertainment Japan Inc. The first movie to be shown in the experiment will be “Corpse Bride” directed by Tim Burton, which will run at three cinemas in Tokyo and Osaka. This will be followed by “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” in November. (Kyodo)
