Believe it or not, but this place in Akihabara, called Smoker’s Style, is just a giant room with vending machines and chairs where you can freely smoke. You could barely see the people inside because of the smoke. Absolutely disgusting.

I heard about this place. My favorite magazine called Cancer is sponsoring it.
Now, the thing is, I don’t know if you’re being serious about the magazine or not. See, in Japan, it wouldn’t surprise that such a magazine would exist.
That’s been there for a few years now I think. They can hotbox that room all they like, it’s better than breathing in their stinky smoke on the streets.
Yah, those places are disgusting. You gotta steer clear of that door because when it opens… ewwwww
yeah. i say more power to them. if people want to be in there.. rock on.. though, i mean, whats really so different from that, compared to a bar? [a none smoking bar].. they are place’s you go to consume things that are bad for you.. you can just see the smoke in this case..
they totally have those for free in airports …
sorry — I’m far too cynical …
Nik, there’s no charge to enter the space. Inside, it’s just like a big waiting room, with lots of vending machines.
Isn’t this the necessary consequence of the streets of Shibuya and whatnot becoming smoke-free? They must be the equivalent of the ’smoker’s room’ there used to be in my old college dorms. I guess they’re government provided.
All those adverts against smoking on TV and posted around too.
I think it would be funny if they put the ceiling half way up the wall, at about one metre, so that you’d walk past, read the ‘Smoker’s Style’ label, and see everyone bent over or crouched down, puffing away, craning their necks up at you, looking shifty. Perhaps that’s for next year.
Can I assume you are all of the non-smoking tribe? :-)
Weird breed…
You non smokers can bitch all you like. I respect that Aki/Tokyo/Yurakucho/Iidabashi/etc-eki areas are no smoking in public. I’m happy that JT gave its customers (including me) a place where we can have a smoke in peace (go ahead make your jokes, “Peace” is afterall a brand of cigarettes here, as is “Hope”).
I’ve never seen the public ban enforced, but I respect it anyways. Seems it got started when some slob salaryman was cruising along with cig in hand lit side out and almost put out some kid’s eye. How hard is it to learn common sense smoking, like cupping the lit end of the smoke with your hand so you dont burn anyone or anyones bag/coat/whatever by accident? One bad apple ruins it for the rest of us…

I don’t think anyone’s criticizing the existence of that spot. I’m just saying that the inside looks disgusting. But yeah, it’s great for non-smokers, definitely.
Great, now I need a cig
phrrr…smokers are the real bitches here..im actually sory i have to say that…but hey…you let corporate P.I.M.Ps rule(and ruin) your lives.now thats silly huh?
