Yesterday’s Daily Yomiuri also featured a great article on one of my definite guilty pleasures, pop-rap duo Halcali. I’ll remind you also that you can see a live performance by them in the fourth episode of the BBC show ADAM AND JOE GO TOKYO. I really need to pick up their debut album, BACON. And I promise to eat crispy bacon as I listen to it.

  1. Funny how the “live performance” sounds exactly like the recording ;-). Gotta love JPop…

  2. When it comes to J-pop, it’s definitely image over substance. I’m not pushing Halcali for their artistic merits. I just like the beats and the funny dance moves.

  3. I was also tempted by that album which I sampled in store. If I remember right, FPM has something to do with it? which I think is what had caught my attention at first.

Just checked the Tower Records critic and it says that FPM is a guest producer. :)

  10. this band, boris /8th episode video review/ seems interesting, it may be like some ironic-serious metal or smth.

and they feature ‘blue spring’movie. did anyone see it?

    it seems interesting.

  11. I’ve been wanting to see BLUE SPRING for ages, and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s based on a manga by very cool manga artist Taiyo Matsumoto (who also did the PING PONG manga).

  14. I was in Tokyo and saw them on MTV. But now that I’m back in the US I cannot find anywhere to buy their singles. And I can’t navigate through all the Japanesse sites to buy one. Any ideas on how I can buy any of their singles (an english website)?

  19. Well, I just picked up Bacon at Dorama, and I’m really impressed! I downloaded Giri Giri Surfrider and Tandemu about a year ago, but hadn’t heard the CD until now - it’s really good! And thanks for the video links …
