As a Korean-speaker, I would like to note that "bi bim bop" or "bibimbop" is probably the closest to the actual pronunciation. There is a drive in Korea to "re-spell" (in English) all the words to their closest/correct pronunciation. So you can pretty much throw out all the spelling from even a few years ago.

Yes, indeed, great photos and commentary.

My guide mentioned how the written Korean with alphabet letters (the equivalent of the Japanese romaji) has recently gone through changes to eliminate the previous use of commas and such (makes it easier to use in computers in part). So, as far as I know, bibimbap is the official way to write it, but yeah, it doesn't necessarily correspond completely to the way to sounds.

Glad your enjoying the entries.

But I like the bi bim bop spelling, makes it sound funky! Glad you're enjoying the Korean stuff Nadine, there's at least a week or two more of stuff to come.

I remember seeing on one of 99's TV shows (NAINAISIZE) one time Yabe visiting a whole bunch of Korean restaurants in Shin-Okubo (he had to visit a bunch of plates, and then decide where he wanted to eat). All the places looked absolutely delicious. I just hope that it's not too expensive. I imagine they must have some lunch specials.

Yum! My favorite [kind of bibimbap]!

Is "bibimbap" the correct romaji spelling for it in Korean? I've always spelt in "bibinpa" but that's from Japanese.

I have been pining for a good bibimbap. Back in NYC we would regularly go to the Daily Chow (http://www.dailychow.com/) a great casual little Korean restaurant in the East Village. There it was spelled "bi bim bop".

Funny that this topic came up now, because just 3 or 4 days ago I finally found stone-bowl bibimbap action here in Amsterdam. I got totally addicted to it in Vancouver before I left, and actually sought a place out in Paris when I was there in February. But they have it here in Ams too!

I have seen it spelled about 500 different ways, but the most common is bibimbap so that's what I go with :-)
